Matt Moriarty
Artist
About
Matt is an artist who works with illustration, digital art and painting.
Working across multiple styles, Matt creates stylised cartoons and comics through illustration, working on projects such as online web comics, children’s books and fine art.
In 2020, he was awarded the Blacktown Council Artist grant, which allowed him to write and illustrate a children’s book based on stories his father would tell him and his siblings as kids, ‘The Adventures of Larry Lizard’.
Inspired by artists the likes of Basquiat and Hewlett, and philosophical essays by Baudrillard and Dawkins, Matt explores the ideas of the simulacra, our various versions of reality and simulation theory plus the idea of memento mori (Latin for; remember that you must die), where we should all appreciate life, as death comes for us all.
These ideas will feature as prominent focuses in Matt's latest show: "A Collection of Skulls".
